What is Afro Survey?
Afro Survey is Africa's first AI-powered survey tool - a powerful data collection platform that allows you to create surveys, collect data in the field (even offline), and analyze your results in real-time. It's built on the open-source Ona platform and uses the XLSForm standard for form authoring.
How do I create my first form?
You can create forms using XLSForm format in Excel or Google Sheets. Visit XLSForm.org for documentation and examples. Once your form is ready, upload it through your dashboard to start collecting data.
Can I collect data offline?
Yes! Afro Survey supports offline data collection through mobile apps like ODK Collect and KoBoCollect. Your data is stored on the device and automatically synced when you have an internet connection.

What is XLSForm?
XLSForm is a form standard that allows you to author surveys in Excel using a simple and human-readable format. It supports complex logic, skip patterns, validations, and multiple question types. Check the form gallery for examples you can download and modify.
What question types are supported?
Afro Survey supports all standard XLSForm question types including: text, integer, decimal, select_one, select_multiple, date, time, datetime, geopoint, geotrace, geoshape, image, audio, video, file, barcode, calculate, note, and more.
How do I share my forms with others?
You can share forms by making them public in your form settings. Public forms appear in the Form Gallery where other users can view and clone them. You can also share forms directly with specific users by adding them as collaborators.
Data & Security
Is my data secure?
Yes, we take data security seriously. All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. We follow industry best practices for data protection and regularly update our security measures.
Can I export my data?
Absolutely! You can export your data in multiple formats including Excel (XLS/XLSX), CSV, KML (for geographic data), and JSON. You can also access your data programmatically through our REST API.
Who owns the data I collect?
You retain full ownership of all data you collect. We do not sell or share your data with third parties. You can delete your data at any time, and it will be permanently removed from our servers.
